Dr. Imran Mirza is a graduate of Rawalpindi Medical College, University of The Punjab, Pakistan, and a post-graduate of George Washington University, USA. He trained in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at a Yale University affiliated program in USA and did his fellowship in Hematopathology at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada; College of American Pathologists; and American Society for Clinical Pathology; and Diplomate of American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Hematology, and Molecular Genetic Pathology.
Since 2012, Dr. Mirza has been the Chief of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Institute of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, UAE. He also has an Adjunct Clinical Staff appointment at Cleveland Clinic and an Adjunct Professor status in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of University of Alberta. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Mirza worked as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry of University of Alberta, Canada, and served as the Director of the Molecular Pathology Lab at the University of Alberta Hospitals, Canada, and as Section Head of Molecular Pathology at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi. Since 2013, Dr. Mirza has been serving as a Councilor on the board of International Society for Laboratory Hematology and as a member on the board of Emirates Society for Haematology. For both these organizations, he has served as annual meeting session chair, invited speaker, abstract committee co-chair, abstract reviewer, and mentor to laboratorians who have presented their research as oral and poster abstracts. He has worked as an ad hoc reviewer for several medical journals and has peer-reviewed publications and a book chapter to his credit.
His research interests focus on laboratory aspects of acute leukemias, chronic myeloproliferative disorders, myelodysplastic syndromes, cancer genomics and continuous improvement.
